Lidarti Cristiano Giuseppe

Cristiano Giuseppe Lidarti (1730-1793) was born in Vienna. He traveled around Europe with the intention of studying opera composition in Italy, but this wish never materialized and from 1757 on, he proceeded to compose only instrumental music. In that same year, he was appointed as a musician at the church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri in Pisa, where he worked until at least 1784. As a composer, Lidarti is best known for his rediscovered oratorio Esther, which was composed in Hebrew for the Jewish community of Amsterdam and with a text that was likely prepared for him by the Jewish composer Abraham Caceres.
