Joan Franks-Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 1st, 1930. She received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Shortly after her immigration to israel, in 1970, she started to work in the Music Department of the Israel Broadcasting Authority (Kol Israel). Her works have been performed in Israel by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, on various series of new music concerts as well as by many of Israel's leading soloists. Heir HUMPTY DUMPTY SAT ON A WALTZ was performed at the Warsaw Autumn, 1980 and at the World Music Days of the ISCM in Belgium in 1981. Her FROGS was played by the Brooklyn Philharmonia Orchestra directed by Lukas Foss. Other works have been performed throughout Europe and the USA. In the early 90th she returned to the USA, where she died, after long illness, in January 2003.
