Salmon Karel
;Born in Heidelberg, Germany, November 13, 1897; studied composition with Philipp Wolfrum; 1916 short study with M. Reger in Jena, Germany attended R. Strauss' master classes at the Berlin Academy of Arts; 1920-32 worked as a repetiteur at the Berlin Staatsoper; conductor in Baden-Baden ;and baritone at the Hamburg Opera; 1933 settled in Eretz Israel (Palestine); 1936-48 Music Director of the Palestine Broadcasting Service, Jerusalem 1948-57 Director of the Music Dept. of the Israel Radio (Kol Israel.) Died in Beit Zayith, near Jerusalem, January 15, 1974. Karel Salmon received the Engel Prize 1951 for his Symphonic Suite on Greek Themes
