The SONATA No. 1 was composed in 1961, and belongs to the tonal-folkloristic works of the composer, who later became interested in new methods of composition. The three movements of the work are based on classical forms, the first being a 'sonata' movement with two subjects, the second is a slow A-B-A movement, and the third is an elaborated 'rondo' with a fugue in the middle.
